The programme for upcoming tastings in The Vintage Port Club can be seen in the following schedule – except the exact date for the Winemakers Dinner.
Focus is on both Vintage and Tawny. Tawnies have always been included in tastings throughout the years, but an increasing member interest will be met by somewhat greater attention towards Tawnies and Colheitas.
Wine Tasting Class
Wednesday the 14th of September 2016: We have invited wine journalist and founder of the Wine Academy Denmark, Thomas Ilkjær, who will tell us about how to describe taste, how to judge, and how to give points. Off course we will taste and comment on new and old Port – both Vintage and Tawny style.
Crusted Port vs. LBV
Thursday the 13th of October 2016: There seems to be an increasing interest in Crusted port. We’ll taste fine examples andcompare them with Late Bottled Vintages from same producers.
The house of Andresen
Thursday the 8th of November 2016:The Company Andresen was founded by a Dane and has ainternational reputation when it comes to Tawnies and Colheitas. The owner Carlos Flores de Santos will guide us through a broad tasting of the different ports.
Winemakers Dinner with Noval & Christian Seely
This year’s Winemakers Dinner will be the 1st of December. We are proud to present the famous prestige house Quinta do Noval and a very special guest, namely Christian Seely, managing director of AXA Millésimes, owner of Noval.
The Douro Boys
Thursday the 7th of February 2017: Five different companiesjoined forces in the Douro Boys: Quinta do Vallado, Niepoort, Quinta do Crasto, Quinta Vale D. Maria and Quinta Vale Meão. We’ll taste wines from all five estates in different vintages.
Thursday the 23rd of March 2017:Next year,Vintage 1997 is 20 years old. We’ll tastea broad row of the Vintage and evaluate their development. Are some of them ready or do they need more time to mature?
General Assembly and Krohn
Thursday the 27th of April 2017:This year the General Assembly is followed by a tasting of one of the best Tawny houses, Krohn, which is owned by the Fladgate Partnership.
